Although it wasn't announced at the Google I/O keynote this morning, it looks like the Google Play Store is headed to Chromebooks.
Just as the keynote wrapped up without any mention of Google Play on Chromebooks — widely rumored in the run up to the developer festival — a new I/O session description suggests it is indeed on the way.
The session, held tomorrow (May 19) at 4 p.m. local time, says (emphasis ours):
"Today we announced that we're adding the best mobile app experiences in the world, Android apps and the Google Play store, to the best browser in the world, Chrome! Come to this session and test your Android apps for Chrome OS. You will get hands on help from our friendly engineers on how to optimize your Android app for Chromebooks. Oh, and we will also be giving the first 50 developers to show up a free Chromebook so they can get a head start bringing their apps to Chrome!"
Google often updates I/O session listings immediately after the keynote with more information based on newly-announced stuff. In this instance, we're first hearing about this new feature through the session listing, despite the lack of any official announcement.
Regardless, the news isn't a huge surprise, having out onto some Chromebooks over the past month.
