Well, the long, strange trip of the latest Assassin's Creed mobile game finally comes to an end as Assassin's Creed Identity [] has just launched worldwide. The saga began when Identity way back in September of 2014. The game was built around quick missions that felt conducive to mobile play but it was the first Assassin's Creed game on iOS to be built around the more traiditional open-world mechanics of the long-running console and PC game series. It was also a very free to play game with all the trappings that comes with, which just didn't jive well with the type of game that it was.
Assassin's Creed Identity remained in soft-launch all the way up until late last month, when it disappeared from the App Store without warning. Just a few days later it was that Assassin's Creed Identity had been reconfigured as a paid title and would at long last be officially launching on February 25th. The change to a paid game and many of the other thoughts behind the game's creation were discussed in some earlier this month.
Curiously, Assassin's Creed Identity wasn't quite done having a wacky launch, as earlier today it for some reason, but didn't propagate through to other regions like a normal scheduled launch usually does. Whatever the reason was for that remains unknown, but hey, nothing about this launch would surprise me anymore. The good news is that Assassin's Creed Identity appears to be a pretty awesome game, and while it may not have quite the personality of a full console game with a complex storyline to follow it still does the job of giving you that Assassin's Creed fix when you're on the go.
The game is $4.99 and available now, and impressions of this latest release version are slowly rolling , so check it out and don your hood and crazy retractible knife thingys and get to assassinating things.
Update: Some folks reporting getting errors when trying to download. Most likely the typical App Store weirdness so just keep mashing the buy button and it should eventually work!
