Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. The biggest news this week seems to be the return of the Fantastic Four to Marvel’s games, but there are some other neat updates in the mix as well. I’ve grabbed a variety to help you through your morning coffee. Or afternoon coffee. Not sure when this will be posted. Also, tea is okay if you want. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!

As usual, when you see Choice of Games appear in these lists, it means a new game is available in the app. The title this time around is called Chronicon Apocalyptica, and it’s an adventure where you battle against a wide variety of foes to protect both the book of secrets you carry and England itself. This story packs in quite a bit of English mythology, so you can expect to see things like Excalibur, elves, and the Tremulous Hand of Worcester come up as you play through. It leans more on the adventure than the romance aspects, but you can hook up with your greatest enemy if you want, so that’s alright.

With a huge roster of prominent characters already available in the game, Fire Emblem Heroes really only had one big hole in its roster: beast characters. Dragons were kind of kludged in there, but the later Fire Emblem games have featured a wide variety of characters who transform into giant beasts to battle, something that didn’t really fit in Heroes until now. This update finally adds Beast as a weapon type, and kicks it off with some of the Laguz from the Tellius games. This update also adds support for full-screen play on the 2018 iPad Pro.

New characters are slowly trickling out in SEGA Heroes, which may be for the best as it means the development team can focus on some fundamental improvements rather than trying to shovel coal into the fire every week. This update, for instance, improves the Arena Mode by making the computer opponent smarter, gives more accurate suggested team power levels, and stops abilities from creating star tiles if the matching hero has been downed already. Also: bug fixes. And if you really want a new character, Gus from Crazy Taxi is here and is very obtainable.

The Fantastic Four: they exist. It seems like a non-controversial statement, but try getting anyone at Marvel Games to acknowledge that a couple of weeks ago and you’d have been out of luck. The team is back, however, and they’re making a big splash in a number of Marvel apps. All four members, plus Dr. Doom and Victorious, are now available in Future Fight. If you’re not familiar with them, let me run through their powers. Reed Richards is elastic, Sue can fade from sight, Johnny is the Human Torch, and The Thing just loves to fight. There, you’re all set. Oh, and Doom? He does as he pleases.

I’m under the impression that each individual character takes quite a bit more work to add in Contest of Champions than in most other Marvel games, so you only get one of the Four here. Fortunately, it’s the best one: Ben Grimm, the ever-lovin’ Thing! The others will likely follow sooner or later, but hey, when it comes to a fighting game, how can you not start off with Thing? He used to wrestle professionally! In space! In recognition of this fine work, I’ve decided to give the coveted one-of-a-kind UMMFFotW award to this game. Congrats!

There are guns. There is presumably some glory involved. It is Guns of Glory, and it is very popular and quite detested by its players all at once. A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. But if you do, here’s an update. It adds the New World, a whole new area to explore. Catacombs 2.0 is also here, with some new story content to enjoy. You’ve got an All-Kingdom Quest, a new helper feature, and some holiday events that will be unveiled in timely fashion. Also, some optimizations and bug fixes! Yee-haw. Guns. Glory. The combination of the two.

I could think of a million different ways to do a Star Trek game, but I never would have thought of doing a Game of War-style thing. But someone did, and they seem to be making some coins with it, so I guess that’s something people wanted. The latest update adds a new surveyor, the North Star, which can quickly mine G3 minerals. You know, like in your favorite Star Trek episode! You can also now earn Christopher Pike, because you can’t have a Star Trek game without the George Lazenby of the Enterprise.

I love that they just went ahead and titled this Old School RuneScape. So very on-the-nose. But it’s also nice to see something that is exactly what it says on the tin, yeah? Anyway, here’s a nice update. It adds the Kebos Lowlands, a huge map expansion. There’s a new slayer dungeon, a farming guild, and two new quests to embark on, the Forsaken Tower and the Ascent of Arceuus. There you go, more runes to scape. Or ‘scapes to ruin? I’ll let you decide, I’m just the guy that writes the words on the screen.

The Disney audience is a really wide one, with a lot of fans of all ages and tastes. For a game like Disney Magical Kingdoms, it must be a challenge to keep both the old-school fans and the younger set satisfied. Thus, after capping off an event for Wreck-It Ralph, we now venture into the familiar territory of Cinderella. Lady Tremaine, Drizella, and Anastasia are now available in the game, and for those not up on their Cinderella names, this is Cinderalla’s awful “family". The evil step-mother, the crappy step-sisters, you know the ones. If you want them in your virtual park for whatever reason, there you go.

While looking for any puzzle game to put in this week outside of the usual suspects, I noticed this rather popular game. And, well, it’s a bit of a dull match-3 that includes some social RPG elements, so I guess it’s not actually that different from the other puzzle game in this week’s line-up, is it? At least that one has Wren. Well, whatever. This update adds Hero Classes to the game, which allows you to further develop your characters with new abilities. There are also some bug fixes and other optimizations. And that’s the lot!

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
