Overview of FocusWriter Benefits
You can skin it, set writing goals, and enjoy features not usually found in similar writing applications like spell checking and tabbed documents. Most "distraction-free" writing tools are focused on cutting everything out until you're left with little more than a glorified copy of Notepad.
Moreover, the interface is there when you want it and vanishes into the background when you just want to write. Focus Writer can be windowed or full screen, and the ribbon of buttons at the top appears when you mouse over the area. Its basic features include a find tool - you can search for a word in your text and replace it.
However, the themes button allows you to create custom themes, with your own background, font and so on. In preferences you can turn on auto save and also set goals for the day - by time or number of words, useful for professional writers.
