The Galaxy S8 and have topped the list of the best-performing smartphones in the United States, with the Galaxy S7 coming in a close third, beating the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus—which ranked fifth and fourth, respectively—according to a review conducted by Consumer Reports.
It’s not all good news for Samsung, though. While the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S7 dominated the top three places, the recently-released ranked sixth. Consumer Reports believes that weak durability and a heavy build were the main reasons it wasn’t awarded a higher position.
Galaxy S7 took home third place
We’re stunned that the took home third place. Released back in 2016, the handset sports relatively modest specifications by today’s standards, but a solid design, coupled with continued software updates, have made it a go-to smartphone for customers who aren’t after the latest and greatest internals.
To clarify: that doesn’t mean it’s old hat. It’s still a great smartphone, albeit not one that’s able to compete with the likes of the and iPhone 8 on paper. In the real world, however, it’s able to battle with the titans—and to have a smartphone continue to do that a year and a half after it’s release is quite the achievement.
