From The New York Times:

Google will introduce its much-anticipated entry into the voice-activated home device market on Wednesday, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Named Google Home, the device is a virtual agent that answers simple questions and carries out basic tasks. It is to be announced at Google's annual developers' conference in Silicon Valley.

While the report notes the device will be shown off tomorrow, it isn't expected to arrive for consumers until this fall. That's likely to give developers time to build services and integrations for the platform, which would compete with Amazon's already very capable and entrenched Echo.

Regardless, we should know much more once Google I/O kicks off in full force tomorrow, May 18. As a reminder, the keynote is set to begin at 10 a.m. PT, and we'll be bringing you the latest news from the conference floor as it unfolds.
