In an interview with the , Huawei CEO Richard Yu said that the manufacturer will launch a VR-ready phone this Fall, which will adhere to Google's standard. Yu also talked about the company's alliance with German optics vendor Leica — which kicked off with the , stating that it will continue "at least for the next five years."
Yu shared his lofty long-term goal for Huawei in the smartphone segment:
We want to be the number-one smartphone maker in the world. It's a long distance race, and we have the patience. Our growth is mainly coming from the high-end, premium segment. If you want to be the leading vendor you have to lead in the high-end.
While Huawei is making huge strides in Europe, the Middle East, and India, the vendor does not have a large presence in the U.S. Yu said that Huawei was in discussions with carriers to bring more handsets to the country, without any additional details on specific products.
