Over the last few years, we’ve seen tons of console and PC games get mobile spinoffs. In most cases, developers used to do this to increase brand awareness for their “main" games. Recently, the mobile free to play spinoffs for a lot of titles have made enough revenue for the developers and publishers to look more closely at mobile as a platform. Pokemon GO is probably the best example of something that has done so well on mobile that it influenced the sales and design of the mainline Pokemon titles. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are basically done for the Pokemon GO crowd. NCSOFT (Lineage) is looking to also get into the Western mobile game with Aion: Legions of War which is a reimagining of their PC MMORPG, Aion. Watch the announcement trailer for it below:

As of now there’s no gameplay video for Aion: Legions of War but the developers are promising console quality visuals. This will obviously be a free to play game and is set to release this month on both iOS and Android devices. Unlike many recent free to play releases, this will be worldwide. Legions of War has been developed by the original Aion developers and it is a story driven strategy RPG with PvP and PvE support. There are more than 100 heroes to collect as you build your Legion here. The story here is an original one that is separate from the PC MMORPG.

. All pre-registrations include launch day rewards. Aion: Legions of War will release on January 24th worldwide on iOS and Android. I’m looking forward to seeing how this one plays out because there are too many games that promise console quality graphics with large scale battles and you never hear about them a month or so after release.
