for the iPhone 8, it’s going to be Apple’s first smartphone to feature an OLED display if the reports are correct.

According to a new report out of South Korea, Samsung Display is expected to start mass production of OLED panels for the iPhone 8 later this month. Apple has reportedly approved the prototype panels and Samsung is now said to be making orders for parts and materials.

Samsung is likely going to ship more than ten million screens every month. Apple is believed to have ordered 80 million screens this year alone. The screen may use a flexible OLED to cover the entire front of the device but it’s not said to be curved like the one on the Galaxy S8.

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones in September this year and at least one of the new models is said to feature an OLED display, a first for Apple’s smartphones. It’s also said that Apple is going to launch OLED-only iPhone models from 2018.

Samsung will likely be a major supplier of OLED displays for Apple in the following years given its virtual monopoly on the small-to-medium OLED panel market.
