to other NAND products as well. It’s expanding them from just SSDs to mobile and PCs as well. The company predicts that its fourth-generation V-NAND technology is going to account for more than 50 percent of all NANDs produced per month by the end of this year.

Samsung first started shipping its 64-layer 256GB V-NAND based SSDs to enterprise customers in January this year. It’s now going to supply memory cards, embedded Universal FlashStore and SSDs for consumers based on this technology.

Three-dimensional vertical NANDs are an industry standard as higher memory capacity can be obtained by stacking the cells instead of scaling down the die.

so it’s not surprising to see the company actively taking steps to ensure that its lead is maintained.

Samsung was actually the first company to produce 3D NANDs, it first produced the 24-laywer 128GB multi-layer cell 3D V-NAND in July 2013.

The company said today that it has now acquired new technology which will increase the number of layers further. It also pointed out that its latest NAND technology offers a 30 percent increase in data transfer speed as well as energy efficiency.
