Samsung heir sentenced to five years in jail

The Seoul Central District Court has found Lee Jae-yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, guilty of bribery, embezzlement and perjury, amid accusations that the presumed air to the Samsung empire was offering bribes to former South Korean president Park Geun-hye.

Lee was sentenced to spend a total of five years in a county prison.

It’s unclear whether the charge will ruin Lee’s chances of succeeding his father, Lee Kun-hee. We doubt it, though. After all, as The Verge rightfully pointed out, the elder Lee was previously convicted of bribery and tax evasion, only to later be pardoned on both counts.
