Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for October 2nd, 2020. In today’s article, we briefly touch on yesterday’s huge Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news before heading into the big list of new releases for the day. Lots of interesting games today, even if none of them are exactly blockbuster material. We finish things up with the usual big list of sales, both incoming and outgoing. That’s the plan and we’re sticking to it! Let’s go!

‘Minecraft’ Characters Join ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ in Upcoming DLC
Well, it sure wasn’t a Pokemon. Nintendo’s brief presentation yesterday introduced the next character in the Fighter Pass 2, and it turned out to be the long-rumored Steve from Minecraft. And also Alex from Minecraft. And the Zombie from Minecraft. And an oddly short Enderman from Minecraft. Whichever version of the character you use, you’ll be able to craft tools, lay down blocks, and do all kinds of things to mess with your enemy. It’s about time one of the most popular games in history joined up with gaming’s ultimate cross-over, and it seems like Sakurai and his team have found a creative way to bring it in.

Hide & Dance ($4.99)

From the developer behind Mom Hid My Game! comes this spin-off that sees the sister and other members of the family trying to get their dance on. Mom, ever the nemesis, is not having any of that. If she catches you in the act, you’re done for. So the idea here to dance as much as you can, and when you feel like Mom is about to enter the room, stop. Just be cool. Be cool, man. The same wacky yet sweet sense of humor from previous games is here in full force, making this a unique, enjoyable experience. A bit on the short side, but I think it’s worth playing.
Little Big Workshop ($19.99)

This is a charming little sim where you play as the boss of a factory and need to keep it running well. It has a relaxed pace compared to a lot of games in this genre, so if you like the idea of sims but find them overwhelming, you may end up taking to this one. Organize your factory floor, manage your employees, design the production lines, and create more than 50 different products to sell to your clients. It’s all done up in a really cute style that helps make Little Big Workshop even more approachable. Veterans of the genre may find it comes up a bit light in the long run, but I suspect that’s not really the target for this game.
Macbat 64: Journey of a Nice Chap ($1.99)

No, I didn’t mistype that price. This game is two dollars. So what’s the catch? Really, the main one is that the game is very short. Its nine levels will probably take you about an hour or so to clear at most, and from there all you can really do is replay it. It’s also a very easy game thanks to the batty protagonist’s amazing jumping abilities. But you know what? It’s a fairly competent homage to Rare’s Nintendo 64 platformers, and for two dollars I think it easily pulls its weight.
Let’s Sing Queen ($39.99)

By this point, you probably don’t need me to tell you all that much about a Let’s Sing game, but whatever. The text gods must be appeased. Sing solo or with your friends using either a USB microphone or the Let’s Sing mobile app. This title focuses on Queen, and that’s a marvelous pick for a karaoke game if ever there was one. There are 30 songs included here, with hits like We Will Rock You, Another One Bites the Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody, and We Are the Champions giving you plenty of chances to belt out your best and find out why Freddie’s voice was so revered. There’s not much more to say here. The Let’s Sing games do what they do very well, so if you’re looking for a karaoke game and love Queen, it’s an easy decision.
Grim Legends 2: Song of the Dark Swan ($14.99)
We’ve had a few games this week that fall into the Artifex Mundi niche, but here’s the real deal. Grim Legends 2 sees a mysterious illness strike the Eagle Kingdom’s queen, which leads to a healer being called in. That’s you. Before you can even properly get your bearings, the situation becomes much more grave. The infant prince suddenly vanishes, and the queen is accused of using dark sorcery and sentenced to death. The king begs you to clear her name before it’s too late, which is an odd job to give to a healer but hey, you work with what you’ve got. You’ve got one day to save the prince, exonerate the queen, and find out what’s going on with the royal family of the Swan Kingdom. Hidden object puzzles? Oh yeah, you know how it is.
Birthday of Midnight ($4.99)
From the makers of 36 Fragments of Midnight comes this follow-up which sees our little launchable fairy making its way through more than 70 new levels. There are new traps and tricks you’ll have to learn, but the core gameplay is the same as ever. Launch the little fellow to the goal in as few steps as possible while avoiding a bevy of dangers. It seems to have a more robust presentation than the previous game, which should help the game feel more… for lack of a better word, complete? I’m not sure why I didn’t take to 36 Fragments but I have to believe the developer was aware of the criticisms when they decided to make this follow-up. Hopefully that shows in the results.
Logic Puzzle Collection: Sudoku – Permudoku – Nonodoku ($0.99)
Lots of worthwhile puzzle games on the Switch for some stupid low prices, and this is another one. Logic Puzzle Collection contains hundreds of puzzles for just a buck, giving you an assortment of Sudoku, Permudoku (basically Sudoku with the numbers swapped for colors), and Nonodoku (it’s Picross) problems to solve. Not a whole lot in terms of bells and whistles, but there doesn’t really need to be at that price.
103 ($9.99)
This is an odd adventure game where you help a girl named Lily try to unlock her buried memories about a night that changed her life. She uses her imagination to create a place in her mind, and that’s where you’ll be spending your time. It takes the form of a hallway, and you’ll need to make careful observations in the right sequence to make things happen. It’s a relatively short and simple game once you understand how it works, but it’s actually fairly interesting. Definitely a game you play for the story and the weird vibe rather than the excellent puzzles or anything, but not a bad one.
Make a Killing ($9.99)
A first-person survival horror game, Make a Killing calls to mind titles like Slenderman and its ilk. You have to make your way through a dark, spooky forest, killing what you can and running from what you can’t. Your protagonist is tasked with rescuing his brother from the clutches of a cursed mass murderer. From reading the Steam reviews, people seem generally positive on this game, mostly citing its interesting story as the best point. If you’re into horror games more than I am, you may want to investigate this game a bit more thoroughly.
Immerse Land ($4.99)
This is a live-action adventure game where you have to help the protagonist search for her missing daughter in mysterious lighthouse near an amusement park. There are various mini-games and you’ll also need to make the occasional dialogue choice. Your actions will determine the outcome of the story, so think carefully before you commit to something. For the meager price it’s going for, I wouldn’t expect too much from it. On the other hand, if you like this kind of experience, you’re probably hungry enough to gamble a fiver on it. I tend to prefer adventure games that don’t use real actors, so I’m going to be passing on it.

There are definitely some games in that list that we don’t see on sale that often, but I don’t know how many of them are worth getting excited about. I can certainly recommend Danmaku Unlimited 3 for half-price, and Atooi’s games like Xeodrifter and Mutant Mudds rarely steer people wrong. There’s always Axiom Verge, but if you haven’t bought that on my word by now I doubt I’ll change your mind by saying it one more time. Make sure you check the outbox, as there are some cool games in there including the rarely-discounted 80 Days.
