Ordinal data is a type of categorical data in which the various values in it are ranked in a significant manner, but the exact distinction between the various values cannot be quantified. The grades are sequential or grading such as low to high or beginner to professional. As a case in point, the customer satisfaction rates (Poor, Average, Good, Excellent) have an obvious hierarchy, but we do not know to what degree one of the steps is better than another. This makes useful in surveys, measurement and ranking of preference.
