Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It's time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. There are some cool updates this time around for some big paid and free-to-play titles alike. I mean, more of the latter than the former, but that's basic business rules for you. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let's dig in!
The latest update to Fire Emblem Heroes hit last week, bringing with it a whole new mode called Grand Conquests. It's basically Rival Domains writ large, placing you in one of three armies that are contesting various battlefields. The enemies you'll be facing are the teams of other players, so expect to run into some nasty combinations that the computer wouldn't ordinarily think of. This update also adds additional weapon skills, raises the Hero Merit limit to 5,000, and adds a moderately annoying notification banner to the main screen.
The FEMUR update has arrived, bringing with it a whole mess of new goodies and a customary increase in price for those who haven't bought the game yet. With two new weapons, a new special character, five new trader camps, some new animals including the tsundere chicken, and much, much more, this will keep you busy for a while. There are a bunch of other smaller changes but I'll let you sort those out on your own. What I will do here is offer up a coveted UMMSotW award and go on my merry little way to the next game.
Planet Hulk has packed up and headed home, but if you think the Avengers Academy is getting a break before Thanos arrives, you probably don't know this game too well. A mini two-week event has kicked off, and the highlighted character is none other than Jessica Jones. Other Defenders join in, of course, and the villain is somewhat surprisingly the Purple Man. He's not quite as despicable in his teen form, but he's still looking to cause plenty of trouble with his gangs of mind-controlled ninja. The new recruitable character is The Hood, so you'll be forgiven if you just want to save your resources for the Infinity War event instead.
Respawnables appears to be making some subtle changes to its image, perhaps to try to catch a bit of the money raining down on Fortnite and its friends. Ehn, can't blame them for trying, if so. The latest event is the Mexican Fiesta, and you can as usual look forward to some cool new costumes and weapons as rewards. With 100 new levels and some new characters, there's a lot to chew on here. If you're inclined to chew on a video game, anyway. I'd recommend gum or something instead, but I'm not your dad. Unless my son is reading this, in which case, well, you got me.
As is usually the case with these more-or-less endless stage-based puzzle games, the latest update to Disco Ducks adds a pack of new levels for you to groove your way through. In this case, it's 30 new levels. Apparently they are following some kind of mountain-climbing theme? There's some stuff in the notes here about lederhosen, hats, and groovy mountainsides, so it's either about climbing or they're trying to re-enact the hazing ceremony of my Alma Mater's most popular fraternity.
Much like Dr. David Banner, the Subway Surfers never stay in one place very long. But unlike Dr. David Banner, the Subway Surfers aren't on a seemingly endless search for a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within them. No, they embrace the madness and let it carry them where it may. This time, it carries them to Buenos Aires, where they will make a new friend named Sofia and search for shiny horse shoes. Dun-dun-DUN-DUN!
Again, I cannot stress enough that in a real zombie apocalypse you should not go into the dead, but rather out of the dead. Fortunately, this is just a video game, so you can do whatever. This update adds nine new daily stages to Into the Dead 2 for you to test your skills against. It also adds in luck bonuses, which are apparently random bonuses that give you a variety of effects. Add in some bug fixes and performance improvements, and you've got a potent package for pestering pesky zombies.
Lightning will never, ever go away for good. And look here: she's back in Mobius Final Fantasy. She's apparently gone to Palamecia and that means things are about to go down. Part of her return is that she is now part of the multiplayer mode, so have fun dealing with her Paradigms. The new jobs are also tied into Final Fantasy 13. The Cocoon Aviator is based on Sazh, while the PSICOM Officer is based on Colonel Jihl Nabaat. So if you're someone who came into gaming in the PlayStation 3 generation and you're wondering what happened to the only Final Fantasy you ever knew, it's your time now.
