The game's main hook revolved around jumping between the foreground, middle ground and background of each level in order to discover new areas and solve puzzles, and it was incredibly fun. In fact, despite being initially build for a handheld with physical buttons and relying heavily on precision platforming, Mutant Mudds translated

All was well until around September of last year when Apple released iOS 8 which broke Mutant Mudds. That's an all too common and unfortunate occurrence on iOS, but typically developers will either come out and say they're working on a fix for a broken game or admit that it's beyond help and pull the game from sale. Neither of these things happened with Mutant Mudds on iOS.

While not an ideal way to handle such a situation, Renegade Kid has revealed that they've finally been able to nail down the issue with Mutant Mudds not working on iOS and are submitting a fix for it within the next week or so. They've also dropped the price of the game down to $4.99 from its regular price of $8.99.

As mentioned, this wasn't an ideal way to handle a situation like this and it's rubbed a lot of customers the wrong way. It's hard because I see both sides of the story, as Renegade Kid is an extremely small developer who have a number of projects in the works at any given time, and it can't be easy to pull away resources to dig around searching for an iOS compatibility bug. That said, at least giving a heads up to your customers about what's going on can go a long way.

Renegade Kid realizes this as well, and has stated that the current Mutant Mudds sale will continue on until at least after the update is actually released, so if you were interested in picking it up but want to be confident they'll actually follow through with fixing it you're free to simply wait for the update to hit and you'll still get the discounted price. In addition to the bug fix, the update will include the 20 ghost levels from the Mutant Mudds Deluxe Wii U release available as an optional IAP pack.

Older, great games getting broken by iOS updates is a sad reality, but I'm happy that in many cases those broken games end up getting a fix even if it takes longer than I'd like. Mutant Mudds is a fantastic game and it deserves to reach a new audience of iOS gamers that haven't had a chance to enjoy it for more than a year now. Look for the update to hit in the very near future.
