The latest smartphone shipment by Counterpoint Research shows that out of the 74 countries surveyed, Samsung was the leading smartphone brand in 38. Samsung has thus achieved the top spot in 10 additional countries, considering how it was top in 28 back in the fourth quarter of last year.
Samsung managed to clinch a healthy market share of more than 40% in markets like Brazil, Poland, and Chile. It even became the leading supplier of phones in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, where Apple has traditionally been in the lead. However, Samsung did lose the top spot in India, Denmark, Belgium, and the Netherlands, where it was previously at the top spot, to other manufacturers.
Samsung's main rival, Apple, only took the top spot in 16 countries, a significant decline from 24 countries in Q4 2023. Xiaomi also saw a decline, coming from 13 countries last year to the top spot in eight countries in Q1 2024.
