Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 17th, 2022. It’s a bit of a packed one today, as we’ve got a couple of juicy news bits to cover before we head into the remaining releases for the week. We’ve got summaries of all of those new games, plus the lists of incoming and outgoing sales for you to look at. Let’s get going!

News

‘Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion’ Announced for Winter Release

Square Enix had a lot of Final Fantasy VII news yesterday, but the big one for Switch owners has to be the announcement that a remake of the PlayStation Portable Final Fantasy VII prequel Crisis Core will be coming to a variety of platforms including our favorite little hybrid platform. The game will be arriving later this year, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more about it in the coming months.

‘Pokemon Snap’ Headed to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack June 24th

We’re heading into the back half of June, and given that Nintendo has been consistent in adding a new Nintendo 64 game to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service each month, it’s about time for a new game to be announced. And here we are! It’s Pokemon Snap, which isn’t super-surprising as it’s the last remaining unreleased title in the list of Nintendo 64 titles that Nintendo showed when the service launched. Well, Japan still has a couple of Custom Robo games in the tank, but for the West, this is it. Pokemon Snap will be arriving to the service on June 24th for Expansion Pack subscribers.

New Releases

Final Vendetta ($24.95)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Gosh. In any other week this would probably be a day-one must-buy for beat-em-up fans, but with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles launching yesterday I can see a lot of people missing out on Final Vendetta. That would be unfortunate, because this is another terrific entry into a genre that has been seeing a lot of great entries in recent years. Either go it alone or pull in a friend for some local co-op as you bash heads and kick butts on the mean streets.

Oxide Room 104 ($24.99)

oxideroom104.jpg

You wake up in a bathtub of a motel room, bereft of both your clothes and your memories of how you got there. It’s either a hilarious comedy or a horror story, and while the Switch could probably use more of the former I must regretfully inform you that this is the latter. It’s a bit of action and a bit of escape-room style puzzle-solving as you try to escape. Should you succumb to the many dangers lurking about, you’ll find yourself back in that bathtub. Hm. I’m not too into horror games, but if you are then you might want to give this a closer look.

Space Marshals 3 ($14.99)

spacemarshals3.jpg

Space Marshals 3 offers up another heaping helping of Space Marshals. Tactical combat where you can choose to take a stealthy approach or go in guns blazing, with plenty of guns and gear to make use of. Although the game is story-driven, you can feel free to jump in here if that’s a thing you want to do for some reason. I’d personally recommend playing all three games from the first one on, but I am not the mayor of your wallet. Yet.

Perfect Gold ($7.99)

perfectgold.jpg

Genuinely surprised that title hasn’t been taken already. Well, anyway. This is a yuri-themed visual novel about two former friends who bust out of detention at their alchemy school to celebrate the Sunflower Festival being held in the magical city they call home. You’ll actually switch between the two main characters to experience the story from different perspectives. There are some choices to make along the way that will affect the ending you receive, as well. It’s only a few hours long, so if you’re the sort that gets intimidated by the sometimes hefty length of visual novels, this one might be for you.

Plunder Dungeons ($3.99)

plunderdungeons.jpg

A very, very simple roguelite with card-collecting elements. Collect elements and use them offensively or defensively as you like, and collect treasure to boost your score. Nothing too fancy, but for the price I suppose it doesn’t have to be all that impressive.

Barn Finders ($19.99)

barnfinders.jpg

An odd concept for a game. You explore abandoned barns (and other structures) to find stuff that you can sell at your shop. You might have to clean and repair the objects you find, which involve little minigames. You’ll have to bid on auctions and sales to access the various properties, and there are twelve different locations in all to visit. You may eventually even end up on the Moon, somehow. I can’t say I’ve seen anything exactly like this before, even if it shares some aspects with the billion and one Simulator games on the eShop.

Around The World ($9.99)

aroundtheworld.jpg

A hidden object game aimed at kids. Search the colorful pictures to find the target objects. There are twelve different scenes to play, so don’t count on this lasting for a very long time.

Tales of Aravorn: Seasons of the Wolf ($19.99)

talesofaravornseasonsofthewolf.jpg

A decent little indie RPG that came out several years ago on computers, making its way to Switch via the nice folks at Ratalaika Games. Play as Shea or Althea, a pair of twins whose lives change one day when they meet an unusual wolf. Explore new areas via isometric maps, engage in turn-based battles, develop romances, and make choices to shape the story. If you just want to enjoy the plot, you can opt to play in Visual Novel mode and skip the battles. The game’s reception was generally more positive than negative, but it’s one you’ll probably want to read up on more before throwing down your cash.

I Love Finding MORE Cats! – Collector’s Edition ($9.99)

ilovefindingmorecats.jpg

Wow, didn’t we just have a game in this series come out a couple days ago? I guess some people’s appetites for finding animals in pictures cannot be sated. Well, here you go. More pictures. More cats. And, you know, other hidden objects. Plus some minigames for good measure.

Haunted Zombie School ($14.99)

hauntedzombieschool.png

TROOOZE, ever aware of the world around them, decided it would be a good time to release a third-person shooter where you have to explore a school and kill a bunch of zombie high schoolers with an arsenal of weapons. I picked the one screenshot where the main character isn’t gunning down school kids with a rifle of some kind. Apart from the unfortunate (and I’m genuinely sure it’s unintentional) theme, this is just another junky shooter from a publisher who makes a lot of junky shooters.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Nothing wildly exciting in the list of new sales, but there are a few things worth considering. Kairosoft and KEMCO have some sales to dig into if you’re into what they’re serving, Taito’s pair of rhythm-puzzlers are discounted to celebrate new DLC, the OPUS games are all at great prices, and a few Capcom odds and ends have rolled in. As for the weekend outbox… well, it has a few games. I think you can sort it out.
