Fire, police and ambulances bosses told a press conference last night that four children were rescued from the water in cardiac arrest and taken to hospital in a cr itical condition. Two of the rescued kids were taken to Birmingham Childrens Hospi tal and two have been rushed to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.Emergency services were made aware that six people had entered the water and specialist rescue teams continued the search overnig ht to find the other two, feared to be dead. New Westminster police arrested a man wh o allegedly tried to sc am people out of money by claiming he was in a car crash.Police were called to the 300 block of Alberta Street on Monday, Dec. 16 at around 3:20 p.m. A resident told police a man came to his door and asked for money, claiming he had been in a car crash. The resident followed the man and said he was looking into yards and approaching other doors, allegedly asking more people for money.Upon arrival, police found the man was in breach of several court orders related to similar allegations from around the region.Police did not name the man in a news relea se but said he is a Coquitlam resident. The man has been held in custody until his next court appearance for charges of breaching probation orders. Everyone wants to help people in need, especially around the holidays, and it is unfortunate when people take advantage of the good will of others, said Sgt. Jeff Scott with the New Westminster Police Department. We encourage people to donate to legitimate charitable organizations and to report any suspicious people asking for money.
