Salesf orce has grown fast but will need to continue diversifying, particularly into the analytics realm, analysts say Salesforce enters this yearrsquo Dreamforce conference riding a wave of rapid growth and increasing technological breadth, but much work remains ahead of it, analysts say.Theyrsquo;re not simply an application company anymore. Theyrsquo;re a tools company, a social networking, and productivi ty company as well as a conventional, traditional applications company, said Denis Pombriant of Beagle Research.It is an increasingly large operation as well, with about 87,000 customers and close to $2 billion in revenue. Some 20,000 people are expected to attend Dreamforce, which began this week in San Francisco. The companyrsquo name will always reflect its roots as an on-demand CRM customer relationship management software vendor. But Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has led the company through a series of partial reinventions, making forays into areas like social networking and collaboration. It even named its first chief scientist last week, a move that symbolizes its broader ambitions.They donrsquo;t want to make the same mistake Siebel made, said Ray Wang, CEO and principal ana lyst of Constellation Research. FCrsquo Paul Niven steps into the hot seat.Tigue is a well trusted investment adviser to two of the countryrsquo biggest pension schemes, BP and British Steel.Tigue has an MA from the University of Oxford.
