Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It's time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some really great games got solid updates this week, making it harder than most weeks to choose the best of the bunch. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social [], the watchlist in the TouchArcade App [], or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let's dig in!
I love Mini Metro so much, friends. It's a clever game that always finds new ways to challenge me. There's more of it to love now, as its latest update adds a few new maps and expands an existing one. The new maps are for Washington, DC, Istanbul (with night mode, and Mumbai. The Hong Kong map has been updated to include the new South Island line. That's plenty of choo-choo to chew on, and I am not sorry for that joke even a little bit. In fact, I only regret that I didn't think of it in time for the review.
Red's Kingdom has expanded to two new islands in its latest update. Check out the Fishing Port of Rath Ennis and the Golden Nut Casino in 50 new stages that pack in a brand-new puzzle mechanic. It's an impressive update and it won't cost you a dime, either. I don't know, Red, you creepy squirrel-fang thing, is that really a way for your kingdom to prosper? Look, all I'm saying is that putting the reins of a monarchy in the tiny clawed hands of a squirrel-fang thing is the second-worst leadership choice I've seen in the last year.
Phew, this is quite the update for an awesome game. There's so much here that I can only list the highlights. First, there are 10 new maps that include 3 new outdoor areas to explore. With those maps come 4 new quests that can be completed, five new advanced skills, and a purpose for those Vorator Eggs you've been collecting. This update also includes a number of UI improvements, balance adjustments, and bugfixes. I'm giving it the UMMSMotW award for this week, and no one can stop me!
I'm not 100% sure, but I think Dungeons of Chaos had another week with two updates. There's a lot here, but the coolest bits involve some new skills and spells. Specifically, it looks like the developer is trying to make Priests more useful by giving them access to an awesome new healing spell while slightly nerfing the older, more generally-available low-level spell. There's also a new decoy skill for rogues and assassins who want a little extra something to help them land those backstabs.
Well, if you can't get enough of vomiting eggs, I have some real good news for you, you sick puppy. Eggggg has received an update with a whole new expansion pack you can buy called the Midnight Snack Pack. $2.99 gets you 15 more levels of puking platforming, which isn't too bad of a value considering it nearly doubles the length of the game. I don't know, friends. The content is enough to keep me away from this one in spite of all the good things I've heard about it. What do you all think?
Subway Surfers is five years old! Wow! It's also, I think, the most frequently-appearing game in these Monday updates, so congratulations on that too. To celebrate, the Surfers are going to Copenhagen, where they'll be collecting birthday cakes, meeting a new friend named Freya, and trying to unlock the Hammer board. If you log in right now, you'll receive a free birthday present, and for a limited time, Surfers from previous events can be invited. Happy birthday!
While we're on the topic of birthdays, Leap Day is also celebrating one. Its very first, in fact! It's having a week of new content in honor of that landmark occasion, with all kinds of things including hot air balloon rides, candle soldiers, fruit bats, alien bouncers, missiles, mushroom men, and more. Here's to another year of leaping through wild hazards!
Every time I see the title of this game, I think of that popular panel from One-Punch Man. You know the one. OK. That, however, is neither here nor is it there. The important thing is this update, which adds online multiplayer, pass and play, a new course called Miami Palms, some added language support, and the ever-important bug fixes and adjustments. OK.
Some new goodies for players of Madfinger's Shadowgun: DeadZone. There's a new map called Gemini Port, a new character named Melbin who is not totally into Melba Toast like I expected, a few new hats including a crown of thorns because WHY NOT, and some helpful fixes and other improvements to round things out.
That about wraps it up for last week's significant updates. I'm sure I've missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I'll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
