With all the excitement of GDC, as well as the stratospheric hype surrounding the likes of Fortnite and PUBG Mobile, a few outstanding releases have slipped through the cracks. Despite these huge launches, it's likely that Nano Golf: Puzzle Putting [] - the latest effort from retro indie darlings Nitrome - will occupy the majority of my attention in the coming weeks. As you may have guessed from its name, Nano Golf features a more methodical, puzzle-focused take on its mini golf peers. And even beyond Nitrome's trademark pixel-art aesthetic, Nano Golf is going even more basic and colorful in its graphical design, more akin to the original NES than their previous work. I can't put my finger on it, but a combination of all these elements has resulted in an extremely enticing package, and the sort of game I can totally imagine myself losing many hours to on the daily commute. If you're similarly smitten, Nano Golf: Puzzle Putting is available to download on the App Store and Google Play today.
Similarly to the Super Stickman Golf series, Nano Golf focuses on wacky, fast-paced action as opposed to tactics or strategy. Like many of its contemporaries, you fire balls by dragging on the touch screen, and encounter a number of teleporters, traps and gimmicks like multiple balls and locked doors. Nitrome promise 70+ unique courses, a number of worlds to explore and even boss stages, which look particularly ridiculous in the game's 8-bit aesthetic. Best of all, Nano Golf is free to download, with only one in-app purchase to remove advertisements. I'm always on the lookout for one-handed mobile games as they're just so much more convenient, and hopefully Nano Golf will be more hole-in-one than bogey when you grab the clubs and enter its wacky world. Download Nano Golf on iOS and Android today, and let us know your impressions .
