Samsung is working with Nara Space Technology on this, it's a Korean micro-satellite startup. The reason Samsung is sending memory chips to space is to run tests on the reliability of memory semiconductors in space.
A memory chip evaluation tester developed by Samsung will be to space on the South Korean Nuri rocket that's due for its fourth launch in 2025. Reliability tests will be conducted on memory semiconductors in space by incorporating the chips into a domestic component verification satellite.
The equipment required to secure the memory semiconductors and the reliability evaluation testers will be developed by Nara Space. The company is also going to take part in the equipment's performance to make sure that it can reliably operate in space.
Samsung is no stranger to the final frontier. It literally calls its entire lineup of phones “Galaxy,” and has even to capture some amazing shots of the earth from above.
This unique test will further Samsung's ambitious to become the memory supplier of choice for any and all uses, including in space. As interest in space exploration grows considerably, it's as good a time as any for Samsung to showcase the reliability and usability of its memory products in some of the harshest environments known to man.
