Egypt may not come to mind when you think about , but pretty soon, it’s going to be on that list as well. According to a new report, Samsung is building a smartphone manufacturing plant in Egypt.
The country’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has also that Samsung is setting up a new factory to produce smartphones in Egypt. The factory will cover an area of 6,000 square meters in Beni Suef.
The new factory is going to create around 1,400 direct and indirect job opportunities in the area, particularly in Upper Egypt. The construction on this project is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. So it’s unlikely that this factory will start pumping out phones before next year.
The decision to establish this new factory was made following a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Chairman of Samsung Egypt Jun Su Jung. The will be manufactured at this factory to meet the growing demand in the Egyptian market.
Given the size of this factory, it’s unlikely that the phones produced here will be exported to other markets across the globe. Samsung’s biggest smartphone manufacturing facility remains in Vietnam. Phones produced there are shipped to markets all over the world. Samsung recently expanded its manufacturing facilities in India as well to both cater to increased local demand and diversify its global supply chain.
