Free Download StataCorp StataNow 19.5 (Date 14 Oct 2026) is a professional statistical analysis and data science software package developed by StataCorp. It provides an integrated environment for data management, statistical modeling, data visualization, and reproducible reporting. With both a graphical interface and a programmable command language, Stata supports researchers, analysts, and data professionals working with a wide range of datasets and analytical methods.
StataNow 19.5 continues the development of Stata 19 through its continuous-release model, delivering new features and improvements as they become available. This release includes changes to Bayesian quantile regression, dataset-loading progress indicators, updated documentation, and several corrections affecting statistical estimation, data manipulation, and application stability.
Software Overview
StataNow is designed for statistical computing, econometric analysis, and research data workflows. It supports methods for panel data, survival analysis, time series, survey data, longitudinal studies, multilevel models, structural equation modeling (SEM), Bayesian analysis, multiple imputation, latent class analysis (LCA), and causal inference.
The software handles different types of dependent variables, including continuous, binary, ordinal, categorical, count, and fractional outcomes. Users can work through point-and-click tools or write commands using Stata's programmable syntax, making it suitable for both interactive analysis and reproducible research.
StataNow follows a continuous-release approach. New features and improvements are made available through updates after they have been certified by the development team, rather than waiting for the next major version.

The October 14, 2026 release introduces improvements to Bayesian quantile regression, dataset-loading feedback, documentation, and several statistical and data-management commands.
Bayesian Quantile Regression Improvements
The bayes: qreg command receives substantial changes to its default posterior approximation and available options. By default, a multivariate normal distribution is now used to approximate the posterior of the quantile coefficients labeled as {depvar_q#:...}. Results based on the asymmetric Laplace likelihood remain available under the labels {depvar_q#_al:...} and {sigma_al}.
The release also introduces new options:
- normapprox: Uses the normal approximation for quantile coefficients. This is now the default behavior.
- nonormapprox: Disables the normal approximation and uses the asymmetric Laplace quantile coefficients and scaling factor.
- nowarnings: Suppresses warning messages concerning possible misspecification of the asymmetric Laplace model.
- asymlapok: Enables the asymmetric Laplace model for analysis and implies nonormapprox and nowarnings.
Bayesian postestimation commands bayespredict and bayesstats ppvalues are unavailable by default after bayes: qreg. They remain available when asymlapok is specified and use results from the asymmetric Laplace model.
The command also stores additional results in parameter matrices in e(), including e(mean) and e(Cov). Results from the asymmetric Laplace model are stored first, followed by those based on the approximating normal model. The covariance matrix e(Cov) is now block diagonal, with separate blocks for the asymmetric Laplace parameters and adjusted coefficients. Existing scripts that access parameters by position may need updated index references.
Dataset Loading Progress Indicator
The use command now displays a progress indicator when loading a dataset takes more than three seconds. Progress is reported in 10% increments. The new set use_progress command controls whether this indicator is enabled or disabled. Progress reporting is enabled by default.
Documentation Updates
Online help and the search index have been updated to include Stata Journal 26(3), providing more current documentation and searchable reference information.
Statistical Command Corrections
Several corrections address estimation and postestimation behavior:
- estat aggregation: Fixed an uninformative error when the group() variable was abbreviated after hdidregress and xthdidregress.
- meta esize: Corrected the continuity correction applied when zero cells were present with esize(lnratio) and zerocells(none).
- mi estimate: Fixed compatibility with xthdidregress and hdidregress when cmdok is specified. These commands are still not officially supported by mi estimate without that option.
- mi impute pmm: Corrected donor selection when multiple nearest neighbors are specified through knn() and tied linear predictions occur among complete observations.
- mlogit: Fixed an unhelpful error involving dependent-variable value labels containing non-name characters, such as # or -.
- predict and margins: Corrected the use of first-stage model scores after cfregress and cfprobit when a fractional probit model is used.
- reshape long: Fixed an observation-number error affecting operations that produce one million or more observations when favor(speed) is specified or reshape_favor speed is active.
- save and Mata views: Fixed an issue that could cause Stata to crash when saving after a Mata view had been created using a variable that was subsequently dropped.
- set lapack_mkl_cnr: Corrected cases where the command returned an incorrect value in c(lapack_mkl_cnr), despite setting the requested conditional numerical reproducibility mode correctly.
Stata/MP is the multiprocessor edition of Stata, designed to reduce analysis time by distributing supported workloads across multiple CPU cores. According to StataCorp, using two cores can reduce execution time to approximately one-half to two-thirds of the time required by Stata/SE. With four cores, supported analyses can run in approximately one-quarter to one-half the time.
Stata/MP supports up to 64 cores or processors, making it suitable for larger statistical workloads on multicore workstations and multiprocessor servers.
Getting Started with Stata
Stata provides an interactive environment for learning and performing statistical analysis. A typical introductory workflow includes importing data from Excel, changing variable display formats, labeling variables and categorical values, creating new variables, and examining datasets through descriptive statistics.
Users can then create graphs, fit linear regression models, calculate marginal predictions, and visualize model results. Commands can be saved in the Do-file editor to support repeatable analysis. Stata also provides help files, PDF documentation, and the search command for finding additional guidance.

* Because StataNow is Stata, when we mention "Stata" throughout our website and documentation, we also mean "StataNow". We will be specific about StataNow for features available only in StataNow. And because StataNow is Stata, it is available in all editions (StataNow/MP, StataNow/SE, and StataNow/BE) and on all supported platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux). Throughout the website and documentation, we will usually refer to just Stata/MP, Stata/SE, and Stata/BE for simplicity.
