Despite ongoing world events, 2020 has still been a pretty great year for Android phones — and it's only going to get even better. Looking ahead towards the coming months, one of the releases we're most excited about is the OnePlus 8T.
If you've been following OnePlus for a while, you know that it doesn't settle with just one major release per year. Instead, we're often treated to two — one in the first half of the year and another during the second half. We got the back in April, and likely around September/October, we should see their successors in the form of the OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro.

As noted above, OnePlus's "T" smartphones are typically launched later in the year. This gives the company some time for its first batch of phones to exist and draw an audience, while still getting out its latest hardware in time for the big holiday shopping season.
For some perspective, here's when the past few T series phones have gone on sale in the U.S.:
On September 21, OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus 8T is launching on October 14.
The event will be digital-only and officially kicks off at 10:00 AM EDT. OnePlus's website mentions that some sort of pop-up event is taking place, too, though details on this currently remain unclear.
How much will the OnePlus 8T cost?
Price is a big factor that comes into play with any phone-buying decision, and this is an area in which OnePlus has shifted a lot in recent years. Going back to those three phones mentioned above, here's how they're starting price tags compare (and have gone up) over the years:
As you can see, we have a consistent $50 increase every single year. That would lead us to believe that the OnePlus 8T will cost $649, but the actual price will likely be much higher. Why? The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are two of the most expensive phones OnePlus has released to-date, starting at $699 and $899, respectively. While OnePlus did launch a OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro earlier this year, we're expecting just one variant of the 8T. This is something that , not to mention OnePlus's own marketing has only referenced the OnePlus 8T and not an 8T Pro.
That now leaves the question as to how the 8T will fit in with the 8 and 8 Pro that we already have. It's shaping up to be more powerful the regular OnePlus 8, but in regards to features like wireless charging and an official IP water-resistance rating, we wouldn't be surprised if those remain exclusive to the OnePlus 8 this year.

On September 1, we were treated to . It was discovered in a build of the Android 11 Developer Preview for OnePlus 8 handsets, and unsurprisingly, it looks a lot like the company's current flagships.
The render only shows the front of the OnePlus 8T, revealing a large display with slim bezels, a hole-punch cutout in the top-left, and rounder corners for the frame of the device. Then, on September 14, we got that revealed both the front and back of the phone.
The back of the OnePlus 8T looks a lot like Samsung's Galaxy S20, touting a rectangular camera housing in the upper-left corner with a myriad of sensors. The phone is also shown off in a stunning green/aqua color, seeming to take some inspiration from the OnePlus Nord.
While the Samsung-inspired camera bump is a bit jarring, there's nothing all that surprising about how the OnePlus 8T looks.
What specs will the OnePlus 8T have?
Flagship specs are always a given for OnePlus phones, and for the OnePlus 8T, that shouldn't change one bit.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor will likely be at the heart of the phone, along with a minimum of 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. On September 3, that the 8T will get a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
We've also confirmed that the 8T will have a total of four rear cameras, including a 48MP primary, 16MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro, and 2MP portrait cameras. While the OnePlus 8 also has a 48MP primary camera, the OnePlus 8T will use a new imaging sensor for improved results.
Tying all of this together is the fact that the OnePlus 8T will ship with OxygenOS 11 right out of the box, which is OnePlus's custom software that's based on . The response to OxygenOS 11 so far, but it's great to see that the 8T won't ship with outdated software.
